Tenuta San Marco Negroamaro Salento is an Italian dry red from the Salento area of Puglia, made from the indigenous Negroamaro grape, which gives the wine a southern character, deep colour and a rich bouquet. The aroma is intense and expressive: ripe blackcurrant, cherry and blackberry, spiced nuances of vanilla and black pepper, light hints of tobacco. The palate is velvety and full-bodied, with soft tannins, berry acidity and a long, spiced finish. Serve it at 16–18 °C and let the wine breathe in the glass for 15–20 minutes so that the aroma opens fully. Use a large Bordeaux glass with a wide bowl: it lets oxygen soften the tannins. The wine goes with grilled steaks, roast and baked meat — beef, lamb and pork, with game, beef braised in wine sauce and roast duck, with hard and aged cheeses such as parmesan, pecorino and maasdam, and with pasta in a meat sauce, lasagne and salami pizza.
