Paulaner Münchner Hell is a classic Munich pale lager (helles) that holds to centuries of Bavarian brewing tradition. The style remains one of the most recognisable in the world. The colour is crystal-clear, a bright golden straw under a dense snow-white head. The aroma is fresh, light and elegant: fine malt notes rounded out by the herbal and floral shades of noble German hops. The taste is balanced, soft and drinkable — sweetish grain malt woven together with a barely perceptible hop bitterness that quickly gives way to a clean, refreshing finish; the texture is light, with moderate carbonation. Serve at 6–8 °C: too cold and the fine malt and hop nuances are lost. It is poured into a classic glass pint or a Bavarian mass mug, at a slight angle so that a proper head forms. It suits Bavarian appetisers — Weißwurst with sweet mustard, fried Bavarian sausages and fresh pretzels — grilled chicken and turkey, baked trout and white fish with lemon and herbs, vegetable salads dressed with olive oil and herbs, and young cheeses such as mozzarella, ricotta and young gouda.
