Georgian Valleys Khvanchkara is a naturally semi-sweet red from Georgia. It is made from the indigenous Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes grown in the Khvanchkara microzone of Racha, which give the wine its recognisable bouquet and natural sweetness. The nose is fine and inviting: ripe red and blackcurrant, raspberry and wild berries, with elegant hints of violet and almond. The palate is velvety and rounded, the juicy berry fruit balanced by natural sweetness and gentle grip, with a long, enveloping finish. Serve lightly chilled, at 12–14 °C. It pairs with Georgian meat dishes — satsivi, chakhokhbili, veal or lamb shashlik — with white-rind cheeses, with duck and game in berry sauce, and with fruit desserts and dark chocolate. Use a large red wine glass with a wide bowl and a tapered rim.
