Cune Gran Reserva 2017 is a classic dry red from the heart of Rioja, made by Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España. Tempranillo leads the blend, with the traditional Graciano and Mazuelo alongside; the wine is aged at length in French and American oak, then matured in bottle in the estate's historic cellars. The bouquet is complex and layered: ripe blackcurrant, cherry and dried plum interweave with leather, tobacco leaf, liquorice, cedar, vanilla and spice. The palate is full-bodied, deep and balanced, with silky tannins, a fine-grained structure and a very long, warming finish of spice and berries. Pairs with aged beef steaks, rack of lamb and roast lamb with rosemary and garlic, with venison and wild boar, duck in berry sauce and jamón ibérico. For cheese, choose mature Manchego or aged Parmesan. Serve at 16–18 °C, decanting 45–60 minutes beforehand.
