Costers del Priorat «Petit Pissarres» 2019 is a dry red from Priorat DOCa in Catalonia, Spain, a blend of Garnatxa and Carignan from the 2019 harvest. The name refers to the region's slate soils, the «llicorella», which give the wine its smoky, mineral character. On the nose, ripe blueberry, blackberry, wild cherry and dark plum, joined by pronounced minerality of graphite and wet stone, Mediterranean herbs such as rosemary and thyme, a light balsamic edge and oriental spice. The palate is juicy, deep and fresh, with silky tannins, good acidity and a long mineral-and-berry finish. Pairs with grilled meat — beef steaks, roast shoulder of lamb, pork ribs in a spiced marinade — with venison stew and duck breast, and with meat paella, jamón ibérico and chorizo. For cheese, choose aged Manchego or Pecorino. Serve at 16–18 °C, decanting 30–40 minutes beforehand.
