Steinbräu Helles is a traditional German beer in the Munich Helles style, brewed to the purity rules of German brewing. The colour is clear and bright, straw-gold, under a white head. The aroma is fresh, led by soft grain and malt notes with light grassy touches of noble hops. The palate is balanced: malt sweetness moves gently into a barely perceptible hop bitterness and leaves a dry, refreshing finish. The texture is light and sparkling, with moderate carbonation. The best serving temperature is 6–8 °C. Serve it in a traditional tall glass or a glass pint, tilted at 45 degrees so that a neat head forms. The restrained character of a Helles supports many dishes without drawing attention to itself: fresh salted pretzels and Bavarian sausages with mustard and braised cabbage, grilled chicken or roast turkey and pork ribs, baked trout and white fish with lemon and herbs, a cheese plate of young cheeses — mozzarella, gouda or soft goat cheeses.
