Reyka Vodka is an Icelandic premium vodka made in small batches at a distillery in the coastal town of Borgarnes. The name comes from the Icelandic word for rising steam, a nod to the country's geysers. It is based on glacial water from the Grálarvatn spring, filtered through volcanic rock more than 4,000 years old; the distillery runs on geothermal energy and is fully carbon neutral. Distillation takes place in a rare Carter-Head copper still: the copper cleans the spirit and helps preserve its delicate flavour. The palate is soft and silky, with light notes of wild herbs, a faint peppery edge and a mineral finish, free of any alcoholic burn. It is 40% ABV. Serve well chilled, neat or over a single large ice cube. It is a sound base for mixed drinks: a Reyka & Tonic with lime or cucumber, or an Icelandic take on the Moscow Mule with ginger beer, lime juice and mint. At the table it suits northern fare — lightly salted salmon, caviar, seafood and light charcuterie.
