Kenwood Vineyards Jack London Vineyard Zinfandel is a Californian red from Sonoma Mountain, named after the writer Jack London. It is 100% Zinfandel from the steep volcanic slopes of the Jack London vineyard. The bouquet is intense and deep: ripe black cherry, blackberry and dark plum woven with black pepper, cinnamon, tobacco, vanilla and a smoky note from oak. The palate is full-bodied and generous, with jammy fruit, liquorice and sweet spice; the tannins are powerful but rounded, the finish long and warming. The wine calls for hearty, strongly flavoured meat dishes: grilled steaks and meat on the bone, barbecue ribs in a thick sauce, aged spiced cheeses and cured meats such as salami and jamón. Use a large Zinfandel or Bordeaux glass with a tapered bowl.
