Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 is the classic Tennessee whiskey at 40% from the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg. Before it goes into new American white oak, the distillate drips slowly through a three-metre bed of sugar maple charcoal — the Lincoln County Process that gives it its signature smoothness. The colour is deep amber with golden lights. On the nose, sweet vanilla, caramel and ripe dried fruit, balanced by oak and light smoke. The palate marries sweet and woody tones: toffee, candied fruit and spice moving into warming wood. The finish is long and soft. Serve in a heavy rocks glass — neat, over ice, or in long drinks with apple juice, cola or ginger ale. It pairs with grilled steak, burgers and dark chocolate.
