Captain Morgan Original Spiced Gold is a Caribbean spiced rum drink named after the Welsh privateer Henry Morgan. It is built on a blend of aged Jamaican rum, selected spices and natural flavourings that gives it a recognisable soft, warming character. Sweetish notes of vanilla, caramel and oak move into a spiced bouquet. That makes it easy to drink on its own: large ice cubes and a wedge of lime balance the sweetness and open up the spice. The classic cocktail is Captain & Cola: rum and cola in a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio, plenty of ice and a round of lime. Cola mixes are served in a Highball glass, neat pours over ice in a Rocks glass; the temperature is cool or room temperature, 18–20 °C. On the table it works with grilled meat, ribs in barbecue sauce and steaks, tropical fruit and citrus, desserts with milk or dark chocolate and caramel pastries.
