Barão da Várzea do Douro Reserva Tinto is a Portuguese dry red wine from the Douro DOC. The Reserva designation means careful selection and ageing in oak barrels. It is a classic Portuguese blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz — full-bodied and structured. The nose is intense and layered: ripe black plum, blackberry and cherry, vanilla, black pepper, dark chocolate and woody nuances from the barrel. On the palate it is deep and velvety, with ripe, supple tannins, well-judged acidity and a long finish carrying spice. Serve at 16–18 °C, opening the bottle or decanting it 30–40 minutes beforehand. It pairs with beef steaks, grilled rack of lamb, rich meat stews, charcuterie and aged hard cheeses.
